Presented by North Light Arts
Part of the John Muir Festival
Saturday 5 April – Saturday 3 May 2014
In Celebration of the landscape of John Muir’s childhood playground North light Arts are pleased to present an exhibition at Dunbar Town House Museum and Gallery by Emma Herman-Smith who will also be continuing her research from The Beach Hut on Dunbar Harbour
5April Dunbar Town House Museum and Gallery | Opening celebration of the exhibition which comprises sculptures and prints that capture the dynamic actions of nature in the process of growth and decay. Most of Emma’s work was made during two residencies in 2012/13, on the Isle of Mull and one in Dunbar where she spent a week in our Beach Hut last summer studying the geology of the John Muir Way. Casts were carefully taken which were then cast in cement provided by the ancient cement works at Oxenwells.
21April The Beach hut on Victoria Harbour | In recognition of the inspiration that comes from connecting to the outdoors Emma shall bring the Port Edgar Dragons to the John Muir Festival, a team of dragon boating breast cancer survivors based in South Queensferry. She will arrive on April 21st where she will meet up with local skiff rowing teams for a ceremony of remembrance. She will then take up her week long residency in the Beach Hut before aiming to walk around Scotland in John Muir’s footsteps.
