FERTILE GROUND CONFERENCE
environmental arts towards change
25 & 26 October 2014, Bleachingfield Centre, Dunbar, East Lothian
North Light Arts will deliver the ‘Fertile Ground Conference’ on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 October in Dunbar, East Lothian, with the aim of creating a space to nurture a conversation exploring creative ways to engage communities in the potential for change through public art with an environmental agenda.
Saturday 25 October
Arrival 9.30: registration and coffee
Morning 10am – 1pm: Introduction from North Light Arts, Chair Chris Freemantle will introduce our Keynote speakers. Questions led by our Chair Chris Freemantle
Lunch 1 – 2pm By The Ridge Cafe
Afternoon 2 – 4pm: Sustaining Dunbar’s ‘Gathering In’ and a range of community engagement activities and workshops
Afternoon 4 – 5.45pm: Artists presentations, followed by a summing up from our chair Chris Fremantle
Evening 7 – 9pm: Celebration of the Sea & Supper | Foraging expert Mark Williams of Galloway Wild Food and The Ridge Kitchen prepare a seasonal and locally sourced supper, a culinary arts event with music and prose to nourish and entertain (additional £12 per person)
Sunday 26 October
Morning 10 – 1pm: Site visits to Belhaven Hospital Community Garden for a sensory slow walk and talk about the creation of the garden by Sustaining Dunbar; then on to a geologist led walk to Whitesands with Geologist Fiona McGibbon to view the amazing fossilised coast along the John Muir Way link route
Lunch 1 – 2pm By The Bakery Dunbar
Afternoon 2 – 4pm: Chaired debate on the potential of environmental and public art in rural areas
Creative Scotland, East Lothian Council and Scottish Natural Heritage have provided funding to enable North Light Arts to deliver this conference which aims to cultivate a fertile ground in which to discover the unique potential of our locality through engaging artists, environmental visionaries, science specialists and local organisations, developing an active process of dialogue, debate and cross pollination.
Free creche and children’s workshop for delegates children on Saturday 9am -1pm.
