Film | Mapping the Landscape of John Muir’s Playground

On 21 April 2014, North light Arts participated in celebrations for the opening of the new John Muir Way, a walking trail from his birthplace in Dunbar across to Helensburgh where he sailed to America.

Our Artist in Residence Emma Herman-Smith exhibited in the Town House Gallery and in recognition of her environmental practice brought an exhibition to our Beach Hut on Dunbar Harbour and also the Port Edgar Dragon Boat, meeting with local skiff rowing teams in memory of John Muir’s departure from this his childhood playground.

We collaborated with the exuberant celebrations in the town which were organised by UZ Arts and these were beautifully captured in this short film directed, shot and edited by Colin Usher, with contributions by Shona McMillan and Eileen Hall; overlaid by music from Gengis Shan and Joko Pono with Lewis on Fiddle.
